Royal SCA Missive

Greetings Unto the Populace of Gleann Abhann, from Their Royal Majesties
Ashikaga Hiromoto and Ashikaga Kimiko,

It is with heavy hearts that we sit and write this missive to you today.
At this time we are making this announcement so that the information can
be transparently and freely given to the wonderful people of the River
Valley Realm. We apologize for this mundane intrusion into the Dream we
all share in the Society. We have included all of the relevant
information as accurately as possible at this time and we ask that any
questions be directed to US as necessary. This is a long e-mail but
please read it in its entirety. We DO NOT want to cause any alarm for
Our Populace and at this time we do NOT see many ill effects to our
groups. This WILL be managed as such to cause as little discomfort as
possible. We are more fortunate at this time than some of our brothers
and sisters in other Kingdoms. We will post this missive to every
electronic group in our Kingdom and we encourage cross posts within the
Kingdom. We WILL keep everyone updated on this yahoo group.

Today at 5pm CST, there will be an announcement released by The Board of
Directors of the Society of Creative Anachronisms. This announcement
will release the details of a legal settlement that has recently been
reached in a case of victims from a lawsuit filed against the Society.
Due to the finalization of this settlement against the SCA, the Society
will owe $ 1,050,000.00 (One million, fifty thousand dollars in
settlement, mediation and legal fees.) The details of the settlement
will be explained on the SCA's website.

A brief summary of the timeline in this settlement is as follows: (This
is a rough outline ONLY and factual details should be taken from the SCA
released documents and NOT from this announcement)

• 1994-2004 - A member of the SCA in Pennsyvania pled guilty and
was sentenced to 62 years in prison for heinous crimes against multiple
victims.
• 2007-2008 - The families of the victims sued the SCA and the
lawsuit was dismissed. The SCA's insurance carrier "dropped"
the SCA from coverage.
• 2009 - The victims re-filed a $7million dollar lawsuit against
the SCA and the insurance companies refused coverage
• 2010 - The SCA filed suit against the insurance carriers
• 2011 - A $1.3million settlement with the victims is reached.
This is less than 20% of the original claim and the SCA has decided to
pay the settlement.
• It is anticipated that the SCA will recoup some or possibly all
of the settlement from the insurance carrier once that suit is
concluded.

The legal fees from these actions for such a length of time have
completely drained the SCA's corporate accounts and the SCA Inc
cannot fund the settlement.

As such, all of the Kingdoms of the SCA in the United States and Canada
have been asked to provide funds that amount to 18% of the cash (and
cashable assets) available in their accounts to SCA corporate within
the next 10 days to pay the settlement. This applies to The Gleann
Abhann Kingdom account as well as every Barony, Shire, Canton and
College in our Kingdom. Independent wars such as Pennsic and Gulf Wars
are also affected.

SCA corporate must pay the settlement within 45 days or revert back to
the $7millon dollar lawsuit. Needless to say a $7million dollar judgment
against the SCA would have catastrophic results for the SCA.

It is anticipated that the SCA will recoup some or possibly all of the
settlement from the insurance carrier once that suit is concluded (There
is a court date set for May 2012). The money refunded from this suit
would go directly back to the groups that provided it before any money
would go to SCA corporate.

We are asking for EVERY seneschal and exchequer as well as
barons/baronesses from every group in our Kingdom to contact the Royalty
directed below WITHIN THE NEXT 2 DAYS. This is TIME CRITICAL so please
we are asking EVERYONE to have the representatives of the groups contact
us as soon as possible by whatever means are available. We are asking
you to NOT contact our Kingdom Seneschal or our Kingdom Exchequer about
this at this time unless directed by TRM or TRH as they are going to be
very busy.

Greetings once again, In our haste to impart the information to you as soon as possible, we did not mean to imply that local Seneschals and Exchequers should not be in contact with their Kingdom Officers. It has been brought to our attention that this was mistakenly written in our previous email. We are asking the Seneschals and Exchequers to contact the appropriate Royalty so that they can be in direct contact with the Crown and Heirs during this process. Group Seneschals and Exchequers are encouraged to contact the Kingdom Seneschal and Exchequer as appropriate.
